“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Have you ever wondered what these words really mean? Why is it that when we commit, mountains begin to move in our favor?
So many times I’ve heard this famous Goethe quote, and yet only now do I realize what he is actually referring to.
He’s talking about ‘free will’. (See future posts on this colossal topic.)
Your guidance – by Universal Law – cannot intervene. It cannot make decisions for you. It cannot blatantly swerve you to change. It can place providence in your path – in the way of opportunities, meetings, synchronicities, ‘accidents’. And yet, if you don’t recognize them – and accept them – there’s absolutely nothing your guidance can do.
You – by the course of ‘free will’ – are in charge of your own destiny.
So … what does Goethe’s quote really mean?
It means that, when you ‘decide’, you’re actually giving the green light to your guidance to assist you. It cannot directly co-create with you without your asking.
When you commit, who are you committing to?
You’re committing to your union with your Higher Self, with ‘God’, with the elements and consciousnesses – embodied and not – who are committed (get that – committed) to serve YOU.
When you commit, they can commit to you. It’s as if your commitment – no matter what it is to – opens the door, the gateway, the floodway, for universal providence to flow to you.
… Take a breath … This is a big, life-transforming concept …
So … in light of this clarity, this simple and profound realization, what do you choose to commit to?
Once you do, notice the ease and flow that pervades. Notice the flood of insights. Notice the synchronicities. This is what Goethe is describing.
The awe-inspiring ‘gateway’ to this phenomenal flow – to your guidance coming in and aiding you – cannot happen before you commit.
Your commitment is the ‘green light – okay’.
Questions to Ponder: What are you inspired to commit to?
