Desire is a natural and empowering emotion that has been used by religion as a means to deflate people’s Will – simply because it has been accorded a connotation of being bad, sinful, and thus shameful.
Pure desire is the soul’s calling.
Desiring something – wanting to experience something which we haven’t yet – is one of the predominant ways in which our soul calls us into our greater potential. It entices us to want something to draw us to move toward it – just like a parent encouraging a child to swim a few strokes farther toward them in a pool.
Desire is the soul’s way of stretching us, of inflating us into our full potential.
Many religions suggest that desire is to be obliterated. Desire can become unhealthy, as when it becomes addictive and our cravings distract us from our healthy interactions. And so it is not desire itself that is the culprit – it is our discernment (or lack of) between addictive (ego) desire and empowering (soul) desire.
For a brief instant, step into the energy field of desire.
Memories may flash in you, like snapshots on a movie screen. You may feel sensations in your body or hear inner voices. Notice how your body reacts. Do you feel excited? Or ashamed? What do you notice about your breathing? Does it feel open and alive? Notice how much more energy you feel in desire than in the lower emotions. Can you feel how you are coming to life? Be as alert as you can possibly be for these few moments.
Familiarize yourself with the energy field of desire so that you can recognize it as an observer in future. As you master this, you will never ever need to languish in it again.
As soon as you have a sense of the energy field of desire, step out of it. Become an observer simply watching it – from the outside. This returns you to a place of choice.
Remember … We are traveling UP this ladder of emotions. Keep reading the upcoming posts, as we are not here to linger in Desire, either.
